Languages – curriculum information

As Linguists, our children at Bude Park Primary will:

  • Be exposed to a broad an ambitious Languages curriculum, which is rich in skills and knowledge and promotes diversity and tolerance of other cultures.

Through an early love of learning, French begins from the very moment the children join us, through drip-feeding general greetings throughout foundation stage and across key stage one, with more formal teaching beginning in year three and continuing across key stage two. Our Languages curriculum will give pupils the opportunity to:

  • Pronounce sounds and recognise how they are represented in writing, through the explicit teaching of sound patterns within the language, allowing children to develop the confidence and autonomy to access new and familiar language
  • Develop a range of commonly used and useful words and phrases
  • Use their language skills for real world, practical purposes, to express their interests and justify opinions
  • Read, write and apply their newly acquired language in a grammatically accurate way and work towards becoming a fluent and spontaneous speaker of a foreign language
