The Governing Body

The Governing Body forms an important part of the school’s overall leadership and management. It sets the strategic direction of the school, while the Headteacher leads staff in the day-to-day organisation of teaching, learning, support and planning.

The Governing Body is not involved in daily management – this is the Headteacher’s role. Instead, governors work to promote high standards, provide challenge and support, and ensure the school continues to improve.

Key Responsibilities of the Governing Body

  • Setting the school’s ethos and vision

  • Reviewing the School Development Plan

  • Agreeing the annual budget

  • Reviewing and approving school policies

  • Overseeing the staffing structure

  • Monitoring and evaluating the school’s performance
